Kickboxing Classes for Every Level
Every evening class is beginner-welcome. You will spend the hour on the bags and pads learning stance, guard, and a small number of strikes properly, rather than a lot of them badly.
No experience and no equipment needed for the first week.
Muay Thai in Troy
Muay Thai adds elbows, knees, and the clinch to the kickboxing base — the reason it is called the art of eight limbs.
The Advanced Muay Thai class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings is where that goes once the fundamentals are there. It is the destination, not the entry point.
Your First Class
An hour on the bags and pads. You will not be sparring on day one.
- First 10 minutes Arrive, meet a coach, and borrow gloves if you do not have your own. Wear shorts or leggings and a t-shirt.
- Next 15 Skipping and a warm-up, then stance and guard — where your hands and feet go before anything else.
- Next 25 Pad and bag work: one or two strikes, repeated until they stop feeling strange.
- Last 10 Rounds at the end are optional. Say so and you sit them out — nobody will ask twice, and nobody will think less of you.
What Our Striking Students Say
Awesome gym with top notch coach, instructors and a great community. Training in both Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu here has been an incredible experience. Everyone's friendly, the vibe is motivating, and the instruction is high quality. Highly recommend to anyone looking to train and grow.
Common Questions
Is kickboxing the same as Muay Thai?
They overlap. Kickboxing is punches and kicks; Muay Thai adds elbows, knees and the clinch — the art of eight limbs. Our evening classes teach the shared base, and the Advanced Muay Thai class goes further into the rest.
Will I get hit?
Not in your first class, and not in any class unless you choose to. Sparring is opt-in, it is separate from the pad and bag work everyone does, and you can train for as long as you like without ever taking part.
Do I need my own gloves?
Not to start. There are loaner gloves for your first week. If you stay, a pair of your own is the first thing to buy.
What actually happens in a first class?
Skipping and a warm-up, stance and guard, then pad and bag work on one or two strikes. The hour is broken down on this page under "Your First Class".
